WSECA

The Washington State Electrical Contractors Association (WSECA) was first incorporated as a nonprofit trade association in 1975 to promote the interests of independent electrical contractors throughout the State of Washington.

During the mid-1970’s, regulation was introduced in the state legislature that posed an existential threat to independent electrical contractors. In 1975, WSECA members successfully lobbied state legislators to protect all existing electrical contractors in the new contractor licensing regulations, even when it was necessary to override the governor’s veto to do so.

For over 50 years, WSECA has supported the needs of independent electrical contractors with representation in Olympia, continuing education, and networking. Unfortunately, during a period where WSECA lacked strength and support from the industry, Senate Bill 6126, the 01 electrician apprenticeship mandate, was passed in 2018 on a bipartisan basis. This upended the ability of independent electrical contractors to continue hiring and training journey level electricians as they had always done. Statewide apprenticeship options are limited to dispatch programs without classrooms in many areas, and their rules and costs are often not compatible with small independent business.

Today, the all-volunteer board and membership of WSECA is working hard to rebuild and once again become the reliable and powerful ally it has historically been. We’re once again working on multiple fronts in our mission to support independent electrical contractors, their employees, and their customers throughout Washington.
